Council moved the motion made by Councillor Mike Neville to change the elected term from two years to a one year term.
Up against Councillors Anne Napoli and out going deputy mayor Dino Zappacosta, Cr Curran tied with Cr Zappacosta in the first round, with both receiving four votes and Cr Napoli with two.
Cr Curran came out on top with six votes against Cr Zappacosta’s four in the second round.
This is the second time Cr Curran has been deputy mayor, being elected in 2013 for the first time and serving three consecutive years until Cr Zappacosta took over in 2016.
Cr Curran said he looks forward to serving as deputy mayor and will work hard to achieve great things for the broader Griffith community.
“I would like to thank the Councillors for this opportunity and I look forward to the next 12 months working to support the Mayor to bring about positive outcomes for our city,” Cr Curran said.
