It has been 50 years since the 1968 under 18s premiership winning Black and Whites side did what many thought couldn’t be done in defeating Temora in the junior grand final.

The Temora side hadn’t lost a game all season heading into the game at Exies Oval, and apparently, the Temora side thought it was a sure thing having had premiers jackets already made up.
“It was a fact I know one of the guys and I brought it up about 15 years ago, and he said it happened,” team member Rod McNabb said.
“They had their jackets already done up with Group 20 premiers already printed on there.
“They had never played us at full strength during the season, and they had won easy all of the time.”
It was an evenly matched game with the result up in the air until the final minutes.
“The lead changed nine times in that game,” McNabb said.
“It was only two minutes before the end that we actually secured it.”
Two minutes from fulltime, centre Phillip Gibbs took the ball from 25 metres out of his own try line, came down the sideline close to the halfway mark and kicked it over the heads of the Temora defence.
Winger John Black travelling in support, won the race to the ball gathered it in and sped as straight as a bullet to score under the post.
With the score 15-14 in Temora’s favour, Frank Huxley set up the ball for an attempted conversion. The kick was never in doubt and when the flags were raised the lead changed for the decisive ninth time.
Zac Ceccato knows what made the difference in the end.
“I think Frank Huxley our goal kicked all of his goals,” he said.
“That was the difference his goal kicking because Temora missed a couple of their conversions.”
McNabb feels the win came down to Ceccato field goal which opened the scoring although the official records say that it was McNabb who scored the opening comments.
