Speirs Jewellers Fashions on the Field is back again for the 2018 Terra Ag Griffith Cup, and organiser Sarah Groat promises there will be plenty to see.
“This year we’ve got over $7000 worth of prizes, which is generating another interest,” Ms Groat said.
“It’s always nice to get dressed up and have a bit of a flutter at the races. Fashions is a bit of fun.”
This year’s races will also see Terra Ag Services come on board in a three year sponsorship deal with the Griffith Jockey Club.
For those who wish to leave their car at home, complimentary buses will be departing Griffith’s Visitor’s Centre from 11.15am to 1.30pm and departing Dalton Park from 4pm.
The races are set to take place on Saturday, September 8. Gates open at 11.30am.
“We’ve got two new categories, classic lady of the day for women over 40 and Cutting Edge lady of the day for women aged 18 to 39,” she said.
“We’ve got three great judges Domenic Scarfone, Michelle Merrylees and Teagan Muirhead.”
The competition will be judged across a range of categories:
- Lady of the day
- Junior racegoer
- Young racegoer
- Couple of the day
- Man of the day
- Classic lady of the day

Ms Groat said fashions continues to grow in popularity.
“It’s just a really fantastic community event. Every year it’s growing. This is the second time I’ve added new categories to it. It just seems to be getting bigger and bigger,” she said.
She recommended anyone looking to enter the competition take a look at the rules to make sure they fulfill all judging criteria.
“I encourage everyone to have a look. If you want to be in it to win it, I’d strongly recommend you check out the website for the rules,” Ms Groat said.
“A lot of people think you could wear what you would to look hot at the pub and come to fashions on the field. It’s not what we’re looking for. We’re looking for someone classy, feminine and stylish.”
