The Firefighting Championships bring together NSW Fire and Rescue teams from across the state to compete in a series of events designed to “develop, maintain and enhance the operational skills of firefighters”.
The region will also be represented by teams from Yenda Fire and Rescue, as well as the MIA Rural Fire Service (RFS). The teams have used the last few weeks to put the finishing touches on their teams and get in any last minute practice.
Senior firefighter Anthony Hatch says his teams have been busy preparing ahead of the big weekend.
“The teams have been training really well. All the trucks have been turning up since Tuesday. We’re expecting around 160 people,” he said.
“Everyone is getting really exciting. They’ve been training really hard.”

“All the events are getting really exciting. I think everyone is looking forward to the tower event, where they have to run up a ladder. It’s always really good to watch,” Mr Hatch said.
The weekend will also host a colouring in competition for the kids, with the chance to win a visit from the firefighters and their big red truck. During the visit, they can also perform a home fire safety check and install smoke alarms for free.
“We hope to see plenty of families and kids around over the weekend. There will be lots to see and plenty of trucks to look at,” he said.
All of the action will take place at Jubilee Oval from Saturday, August 3 from 7:30am to 3pm and Sunday from 7:30am to 1pm. Everyone is welcome to come along.
