Wests had held the fourth spot on the table for most of the season before Hanwood FC Two’s surprise win over Yoogali FC One saw them leapfrog the West Griffith side and take fourth.
West Griffith’s coach Rhys Jones knows there is a lot riding on Sunday’s game.
“It is probably the biggest game of the season for both sides,” he said.
“The winner of this game will all but secure their spot in the top four, but we aren’t preparing for the game any differently than we would any other game.
“We have beaten them this year, so we know their strengths and weaknesses.”
Jones knows his side can’t afford to make the same start as they did in their 4-2 loss to Hanwood FC One last weekend.
“You can’t be 3-0 down after the first 20 minutes,” he said.
“A lot of it comes down to discipline, and the boys know that isn’t acceptable.
“As soon as we went 3-0 down, we started to play, and at times we were better than Hanwood. Towards the end of the first half and in the second we played well.”
The sides have split to two games at one win each with Wests taking a 3-1 win in round five before Hanwood FC Two took a 3-1 win in round nine.
Wests will be boosted by the inclusion of a key player who missed their loss last weekend.
“We should have David Tighe back this weekend after he missed the last game due to being overseas,” he said.
“Matt Culla might also be back, but that is sort of a day-to-day prospect at this point.”
This game will be the first of two men’s games played out at Hanwood Oval with kick off slated for around 1pm on Sunday afternoon before Hanwood FC One take on Yoogali FC Two.
