Last year, my sister declared that she was only using cruelty-free brands from now on. At first, I didn’t join her.

Then I realised the only way to stop animal cruelty is to stop buying and supporting companies who test on animals.
Otherwise, companies will find loopholes in order to get away with the horrendous acts. For example, any beauty brand that buys or sells goods in China can not be cruelty-free.
China has mandatory animal testing laws! So any of our big-name, global companies are stripped of the leaping bunny. We’re all familiar with the brands: Dove, L’Oreal, Gillette, Rexona, Maybelline.
They all export to China, and are all based in the United States, where animal testing is still legal! In order to prevent these companies from finding loopholes that allow them to continue animal testing, we need to put pressure on them to change their disgusting habit.
We do that by avoiding the brand, and instead swapping it for cruelty-free options. Australia banned animal testing in June last year.
RELATED:
No new cosmetics or chemicals made for cosmetic products will be tested on animals. Therefore, most Australian brands are safe to use.
However, the ban only holds Australian companies accountable. As we can see from our local chemists, Australians mostly buy goods from companies in the United States.
Animal testing is still legal there. Fortunately for us, most of our chemists also stock cruelty-free brands! It is so easy to make the switch to cruelty-free brands once you realise you have options.
If it doesn’t say on the packaging it’s cruelty free, look up the brand’s policy or find an alternative.
I hope we can support our local chemists and create a demand for cruelty-free brands, so that we can make an impact on the fight against animal testing.
