Griffith SES unit members had a surprise last week, as four of their members were recognised for their years of dedicated service.

In his visit to Griffith last week, Minister for Emergency Services Troy Grant presented the members with their medals and certificates, in an impromptu ceremony joined by Member for Murray Austin Evans and SES region Controller Colin Malone.
“It’s wonderful for me to be back in the town that I started my SES service in,” Mr Malone said.
“It’s great to recognise some of the members that are here for their service.”
Edward Murrword has served for five years and nine months, and was honoured with a five year certificate from the SES.
Stephen Jackson has been in the SES for 13 years four months, and was presented with a national medal and a SES five year certificate and a 10 year medal for long service.
Ian Kelly was recognised for 10 years of dedicated service.
Anthony Hatch, with 31 years and 10 months of service under his belt, was recognised with a 30 year clasp – a national medal.
All of these members have been away helping other communities on many occasions and are all extremely valuable members of our local unit.

Griffith’s SES Controller Steve Mortlock said these members and other of the unit “have been helping other communities on many occasions and are valuable members of our local unit.”

Mr Malone and Mr Grant were proud to recognise the excellent years of service made by the Griffith SES unit.
“Five years is a really good effort to volunteer your service, particularly in a structured organisation where you have to do a lot of training,” Mr Malone said.
“It’s about recognising people because it is a big effort, particularly in rescue situations.”
“Congratulations to all the recipients, on my behalf I am grateful for your service and it is a pleasure to present these medals,” Mr Grant said.
