Two pop-up shops were held in the Griffith Central Shopping Mall on Friday May 25 and Saturday May 26 encouraging local residents to come to discuss any aspect of the $35 million project.
GBH General Manager Dr Elizabeth Harford said the pop-up shops gave locals the chance to come and ask anything about the project.
“We spoke to around 120 people over two days and we’ve received some great feedback about the project.”
Dr Harford said the issues people wanted to know about ranged from parking to the number of theatres and what types of surgery would be available as well as the future capacity of renal and oncology services.
“If residents weren’t able to make the information sessions, they can still access the Master Plan online and contact us via email.”
Additionally, Dr Harford said the Project Team took the opportunity to receive feedback from the community about the future of the nurses quarters.

Condition reports have identified the building is unviable for reuse due to compliance, structural design and the presence of asbestos. The condition, layout and location of the building also make it unsuitable for any clinical use. The single quarters in the building are also unsuitable for redevelopment as office space or accommodation.
Interested community members have until Friday June 8 to provide proposals on health-related usage of the Former Nurses Accommodation at Griffith Base Hospital.
The NSW Government has committed $35 million to the Griffith Base Hospital Stage 1 which will include:
- Refurbishing medical and surgical inpatient accommodation
- Upgrading and increasing the capacity of ambulatory care clinics and treatment spaces, including renal dialysis and oncology
- Upgrading critical care unit, including the Intensive Care Unit
- Improving access and onsite parking
