A special memorial wall is set to be unveiled in coming weeks. Taking pride of place in Griffith’s Memorial Park, the wall will showcase photos depicting the city’s history.
Griffith Lions Club President Brian Bortolin said the club wanted to take the opportunity to showcase what they feel is still a relatively young city.
“I don’t think there’s a lot around the centre of town that celebrates the town and it’s history,” he said.
Mr Bortolin says while the town’s museums and historical societies offer great insight into Griffith’s background, there are only a few monuments out in the open.
“It’s a good place people can come and have a look. It’s been a long time coming.”

Photos will span from 1903 until 2018. Griffith was officially opened in 1916 before being declared a city in 1987.
The project started a little over two years ago. When Club member Les Corner came up with the idea to commemorate history on a wall.
With a tiler getting started on the project this coming weekend, Mr Bortolin says the project is moving along nicely.
Fellow Club member Peter Wood says the wall will also map the story of Griffith’s local produce and productivity.
“This is about mapping the area. It’s about Griffith is all about, the production, the setting, it’s all here.”
The Lions Club Memorial Wall should be open within the next few weeks.
