It was not all good news coming into this weekend according to coach Craig Morriss with two key players being ruled out through injury.
“Our hooker Kieran McNabb will be out for a few weeks with a chest injury which will be a pretty big loss,” he said.
“Young centre Benji Maiava will also miss the game this week with a shoulder injury which is a bit sad because he was excellent for us last weekend before he had to come off.”
Morriss was pleased to see the guys beginning to gel and starting to play as a team after what was a strong preseason.
“There is a really good vibe around the club, and we have heaps of guys pushing from the lower grades which is great,” he said.
“Each week we are just looking to keep improving, and the important thing is the guys aren’t buying into their own hype.”
Morriss was also pleased with how the defence stood up to the pressure being put on their line even when they started to tire.
“It fell away a bit at the end, but when fitness starts to come we should look pretty good,” he said.
“That comes with training and match fitness, but for most of the game, we were putting on hits and up on the advantage line which was good.
“The comradery within the group is starting to show, and they were working hard for each other.
“The biggest thing is if you believe in what you play for you are halfway there. It’s about respect for the people you play for, the jumper and the people working behind the scenes.
“Once you have that you can work on the rest.”
The game against the Aggies will be on Exies 2 this weekend at 3pm, and Morriss is hopeful of a good turnout.
“We are looking forward to seeing the locals get around us there has been a good buzz around town,” he said.
