Workers have been on-site for a few weeks, conducting a full-scale investigation.
Construction is expected to begin in the first half of 2019 and take about nine months to complete, weather permitting.
An RMS spokeswoman said the works should be completed in the coming weeks.
“Field investigations, including geotechnical investigations for the Yoogali intersection are expected to be completed in early March, weather permitting,” she said.
“Findings of these investigations will inform the design.”
The federal government committed $4.4 million to the widening of the intersection in 2016, with the RMS matching the funds.
The specifics of the project will be available with the release of the Preferred Options Report, the results of which will be used to detail the intersection’s design.
Member for Murray Austin Evans initially said the report was due to be released in February, but RMS have said it will not go on display until three months later.
“The preferred options report is currently being finalised and is due to go on display in April,” she said.

Factoring into the intersection’s redesign are a channel, high pressure gas main, an intersection that doesn’t sit at 90 degrees, a railway and a railway bridge.
RMS have confirmed they have engaged Jacobs “to carry out an environmental assessment and develop concept and detailed designs for the Yoogali intersection upgrade”.
According to the RMS website, the scheduled upgrades will include:
- Upgrading and widening the current intersection to accommodate larger and longer vehicles
- Upgrading and widening the rail level crossing to meet current standards
- Utility relocations as necessary.
The intersection itself combines Irrigation Way, Mackay Avenue, Burley Griffin Way and Kurrajong Avenue.
