A 28 year-old man has been slapped with $1153 in fines and a loss of 16 demerit points after allegedly being caught speeding twice in the same hour.
Narrandera Highway Patrol pulled the man over after he was observed travelling at 139 kilometres per hour in the sign posted 100 kilometre zone whilst overtaking another vehicle on the Sturt Highway.
When he was approached by police, he allegedly admitted to being pulled over for the same offence less than an hour before.
"This is so embarrassing, I just got stopped 5 minutes ago for overtaking the same car."
Highway Patrol later discovered he had been observed travelling 118 kilometres per hour in a 100 kilometre zone.
Due to Double Demerits over the holiday period, he will 16 demerit points.
Highway Patrol says this will result in an RMS Demerit Point suspension for a period of three months, with an additional three as he was caught going more than 30 kilometres above the speed limit.
Over 20 lives have now been lost on NSW roads during the holiday season.
Operation Safe Arrival continues until January 1.
