The Department said these were the “top names” to emerge from the “extensive public consultation” seeking suggestions for Griffith's new secondary school:
- Griffith City High School
- Burley Griffin High School
- Murrumbidgee High School
- Kidman High School
Schoolie McSchoolface, a name suggested by an anonymous Facebook page, did not make the cut.
Sophie Niederle, a 15-year-old Wade High student, likes the name Kidman High, as it’s something new and fresh.
Parent Robyn Murphy prefers Burley Griffith, because “it’s a nice reminder of where we came from”.
The Department is also choosing between names for each of the two school sites. Options being considered are: Burley and Griffin, East and West, Coolah Street and Poole Street, Wade and Burley Griffin and Wade and Griffith
The Department said they will make a name recommendation to be considered by the Minister for Education.
It is anticipated that the new school name will be announced early in 2018.
