Inner Wheel groups across the district have come together this festive season to help out their communities.
The group’s Yenda branch recently donated a number of vouchers to the Griffith Women’s refuge, a service providing supported crisis accommodation to women and children. These will be gifted to needy clients to help make the Christmas season brighter for them and their children.
Inner Wheel East Griffith branch have also donated hampers full of food to the refuge. .
Inner wheel’s Carmel La Rocca said it was important to give back.
“We were lucky enough to get two hampers down there to bring a little bit of cheer to people,” she said.
She also commended the hard work of the refuge’s staff.
“It’s a place for people who need a little help. They can go and seek help. It’s a great resource for our community. The people there are lovely.”
The hampers contained a variety of chocolates, biscuits and other food.
“We have to thank the people who donated for the hampers. They came from all around our Inner Wheel district.”
The organisation raises funds for a number of different groups throughout the year.
Inner Wheel is an international organisation closely linked to Rotary. It was initially founded to unite wives and daughters of Rotarians. Before 1989, Rotary generally prohibited women as members. =
While women are now able to join Rotary, Inner Wheel continues in over 100 countries.
