New Griffith captain-coach Will Griggs has the club’s future in mind as he looks to take the Swans one step further next season.
The Swans began pre-season training last week as Griggs officially took over from Adrian Pavese as the club’s senior coach.
Griffith has experienced a quiet off-season to date and Griggs is not fazed as he prepares to back the growth of the club’s younger brigade.
The Swans have lost one of their promising youngsters, Jacob Conlan, to North Eastern Australian Football League (NEAFL) club Canberra Demons.
Key forward Brent Arho is also unlikely to suit up for a second season at Griffith.
But the Swans are still in talks with a couple of prospective recruits as they look to build on this year’s preliminary final finish.
“I’m pretty happy, we’ve kept 95 per cent of our list,” Griggs said.
“To be honest, we are young but it’s pretty exciting.
“I don’t really see the need in spending money to get blokes in when we’ve got so many good young guys coming through.
“This group in two years from now will have come a long way. If we stick together, keep working together than this can be the group to take us to the next stage.”
Among the re-signings at Griffith is two-time Jim Quinn Medallist, Guy Orton, on a longer-term deal.
Griggs hopes to add just a couple of recruits to top the group off.
“We’re in the process of talking to one or two blokes at the moment and we’ll hear back from them within the next week or two,” he said.
Griggs has been happy with the numbers at training so far and the Swans will continue for three more weeks before the Christmas break, on Monday, Tuesday and Friday nights.
