FOR 25 years the festive season has really kicked off with a tried and true Yenda community tradition.
This year signals a significant milestone for the Yenda Community Carols by Candlelight.
However, there will be no time to be gazing inward at that achievement, - there is a night of Christmas fun to put on!
Originally started by Bob and Sylvia Allen, who ran it for 21 years, Yenda Community Carols is now under the guidance of a small group of supporters, with the backing of the Rotary Club of Yenda.
Organising committee member Lucy DeRossi said it was a good thing for the community to continue the carols tradition in the town.
“It’s an entertaining evening for the whole family,” she said. “The kids can come along and enjoy themselves and see Santa.”
The 2017 Yenda Community Carols by Candlelight will be held on Sunday, December 3 in the centre of town at the Yenda Memorial Park.
While showers are predicted for the morning, organisers are hoping the skies will clear for a pleasant night of Christmas entertainment.
The evening will commence with a barbecue courtesy of Rotary Club of Yenda from 5.30pm and the Griffith City Band will then play from 6pm for about half an hour.
The night will feature uplifting, festive carols and other Christmas-themed performances, while Santa will arrive before dark.

Another highlight of the night will be the reformation of Griffith party band, Kactus.
The group will be coming out of “retirement” to play some songs on the night.
Luke Testoni will also return as master of ceremonies after some years away.
Organising committee member Frank DeRossi said there was one new feature to coincide with the event’s silver anniversary.
“Griffith City Council has installed a Christmas tree for us,” Mr DeRossi said.
“When the sun goes down we’ll be lighting the tree.
“The Yenda Progress Association has also been involved, along with Yenda Rotary and council.”
The tree will remain in place for the duration of the festive season for the community to enjoy.
Mrs DeRossi said everyone was invited invited to attend the event, with performances starting about 6.30pm.
The carols won’t go too long into the night given the number of children in attendance, both as performers and in the audience.
As well as the barbecue and entertainment, there will be ice creams, cold drinks and fairy floss for sale, and glow sticks and candles available for purchase to help set the mood.
Entry to the Yenda Community Carols by Candlelight is free. Any money raised is returned into the event and the wider community, with Rotary covering any costs.
