Griffith City Band has been awarded a helpful cash boost from a generous Beelbangera business to assist in growth and upkeep.
The band was presented with a cheque from the profits of the Beelbangera General Store’s annual Christmas party recently.
Beelbangera General Store has been holding a Christmas party for the past 10 years with Griffith City Band supporting the event for the past seven.
The donation was presented by store owners Sam and Maria Vasta to Suzanne Thorpe, a long standing member of the band.
“We decided to present the money raised to the band to say thank you for supporting our event,” Mr Vasta said.
The event provides an opportunity for the community to gather together and celebrate the festive season while also raising money for a good cause.
Each year a Griffith-based group is chosen to receive the funds raised to help support their organisation.
The money the band received will go towards the maintenance of instruments as well as the establishment of a scholarship to help cover the cost of tuition.

This scholarship will be awarded to someone who shows musical talent in order to help them pursue studies in this area.
“Being a part of the Griffith City Band allows members to socialise with other people that have similar interests” Mrs Thorpe said.
“Everyone gets along well and it is a lot of fun.
“We also encourage and help each other.”
The band participates in the annual Christmas concert as a way of raising morale around the community and to also provide an opportunity to perform and showcase their talents.
The band is honoured to be the recipient of the donation and believed that it was a nice surprise to be rewarded for their efforts adding to the store’s annual event.
“It was wonderful to know that they think highly enough of us to do this and the money will certainly be put to good use,” Mr Vasta said.
We wish to thank the community, contributing businesses and everyone in attendance on the day for supporting this event.”
