TRISTAN’S Barber Shop is modelled on a traditional barber shop, with a modern approach.
From the “masculine” welcoming interior, to a smoking section and even the traditional spinning red, white and blue poles out the front, Tristan’s Barber Shop harks back to an era when men went to the barber for a shave and a haircut, as well as a chat, a laugh and socialising.
Tristan said he was aiming for old-school atmosphere, with a modern twist.
“I wanted to bring the city into the country,” Tristan said.
“It’s got a retro look, but it’s a new modern shop.
“I’ve got pay TV, surround sound, a comfortable lounge. Men can come in to see me and feel comfortable in this environment.”
Another aspect modelled on tradition is the shop only does walk-in trade, with no appointments for clients.
“I find it much easier and traditional barber shops are all walk-in,” Tristan said.
“People can walk in and chill out. There is also an outdoor smoking area.”

Tristan works the chairs with Michael Taufa.
“Michael is a Sydney boy now living in town who has five years experience barbering in Sydney and here in town,” Tristan said.
“It was originally only going to be one chair. When I was renovating, Michael rang me and said he wanted to work for me. He’s really happy here.”
The shop is open six days, Monday to Saturday, but “late” Thursday and Friday.
“We are open until people stop coming in,” Tristan said. “On Saturday we are open from 8.30am until no one else comes in.”
The shop is on Facebook (@TristansBarberShop/), as well as Instagram (@tristans_barbershop).
Tristan’s Barber Shop will be providing free haircuts for kids in need on December 17, in an event organised by Youth Off the Streets’ Mitch Litchfield. The day will include a sausage sizzle.
