Murrumbidgee Lachlan CWA President Jennifer Ireland said it was great to see everyone from the region come together, celebrate and learn.
“What a lovely day it was at Pioneer Park for our 82nd conference,” she said.
“I always marvel at Mayor John Dal Broi’s ability to inform us of the things that are happening in Griffith and the behind the scenes work of himself and his staff.”
Opening the conference was CWA’s State Vice President Beryl Brain, who spoke of the ‘elephant in the room’, and reminded the women of CWA’s commitment to tackling mental health with partnership with the Rural Adversity Mental Health Program (RAMHP).
“She gave us ideas of how we can help those we meet. A comment that resonated with me was – people forget what you said, what you did, but not how you made them feel,” said Ms Ireland.
The guest speaker this year was National President of the National Council of Women Barbara Baikie, who gave a memorable and inspirational presentation on ‘Growing Through Life’s Turbulent Waters’.
Congratulations were extended to the variety of Branch members who won trophies on the day, including Vera Burgess for cultural activity to Tullibigeal Branch.

The Cheers Trophy for Publicity was won by Rankins Springs in a tight competition with Barellan Branch. The Grace Cheers trophy for International work went to Tullibigeal Branch. The McKinnon Cup went to Dianne Peters from Hillston for her lovely cushion, and the McMaster Cup again to Jennifer Pascoe from Leeton.
“The most exciting presentation was made by Lurline Dal Broi of the Dal Broi Trophy to Mrs Barb Jeffrey’s of Yenda Branch, who gave a detailed account of her branch activities for the year... How busy their few members are.”
Mrs Brain then officiated the Election of Officers, which highlighted the need for more volunteers in CWA, with Land Cookery Officer and Ag and Environment Officer positions remaining to be filled.
Local Griffith CWA branch meetings are still held at 129 Banna Ave, but meetings are held at 7pm on the 2nd Thursday of the month instead of during the day, “in the hope of attracting some new and enthusiastic members,” said Ms Ireland.
