At the Griffith High School graduation ball 30 years ago last week, Karen Grillo Snaidero gave her date a wallet with a two dollar note in it, just months before the banks notes were withdrawn from circulation from Australian currency.
When Ms Snaidero met her 1987 date Jonathan Irvine at a Griffith High reunion a few months ago, she was shocked to learn he still kept the note in his wallet, along with her hand written best wishes.

The then 18-year-old Karen was also photographed on the night of her graduation ball with Lurlene and John Dal Broi, then the 40-year-old mayor of Griffith.
Karen recalls having a huge night, but the mayor not so big
“I was conscious the students were a little reserved around the officials, so we went home early to let them let their hair down,” Cr Dal Broi said.
Ms Snaidero, who still fits in to her grad ball dress, said, “finishing year 12 was scary in some ways, but invigorating in others… it was a big relief to graduate and we could really enjoy the night”.
