Last Thursday, October 26, a touch gala day was held at Ted Scobie Oval for local primary schools. Schools that participated were St Patrick’s Griffith, St Mary’s Yoogali, Naradhan Public School, St Peter’s Coleambally as well as teams made up from Griffith small schools.
In a very fortunate appointment from NSW Touch, a country girl, originally from Hay, has been appointed to this area for Touch Football development. Stacey Parker is well aware of how much we have to travel to gain some of the sporting opportunities the larger cities get, and she did a great job to give us a wonderful opportunity.
All children from years 2-6 had the opportunity to participate. Big smiles and enthusiasm was in full force on the day, especially of those who had never played before. Everyone was eager to participate and did so with great sportsmanship.
Wade and Griffith High supplied extremely capable students to referee all the games.
With assistance from Stacey and Matt Bailey they were encouraging and supportive to all the students. They did a marvellous job considering some students had never played Touch before.
The participating schools would like to thank the local Griffith Touch Association who supported Stacey in getting this Gala Day off the ground.
