SINCE it opened its doors, Griffith Central has not only allowed the facility to be used to stage community events, it has actively supported groups and organisations.
Many of the community events staged over the past 10 years have become annual events, including:
- Breast cancer month (Griffith Breast Cancer Support Group)
- Circle of Gold, Ball in the Mall (Griffith Can Assist)
- Harmony Day
- Education Week and Catholic Schools Week
- SuperChef Cooking Challenge
- Seniors Club
The mall is also a venue for school holiday entertainment, ranging from reptiles, an animal farm and costume characters, to interactive stage shows, craft and karaoke.
Griffith Central has been a regular supporter of community groups and schools, donating thousands of dollars in gift vouchers each year and staging information sessions and open days. It is also the site for the Community Services Expo.
Griffith Central sponsors the Griffith Black & Whites league tag, Griffith City Football Club juniors, touch and basketball teams, the Bacchus on The Lake, Griffith City 2 Lake Fun Run and many other activities.
Shopper competitions have had prizes including a trip around the world, a trip to Italy, a diamond ring, an iPad and a spa.
Ritchies Supa IGA at Griffith Central has itself contributed $150,000 since opening in 2007 through the Community Benefits Program.
Organisations that have benefited greatly include Griffith Base Hospital, Griffith Can Assist, Country Hope, Cancer Council - Griffith, primary and secondary schools, St Vincent De Paul Griffith and Diabetes Griffith.
Customers can join the program in store and nominate who they would like to support. Ritchies then donates a percentage of sales to the community each month.
