A pool of hot air is about to sweep across Australia, producing a spring heatwave in some areas and challenging records in others.
For Leeton that means 31 degrees on Friday and a whopping 36 on Saturday.
In Griffith the mercury will soar to 32 on Friday and 37 on Saturday.
This type of heat is unusual at this time of year and September temperature records may be broken in some places, most likely in NSW or southern Queensland on the weekend.
The hot weather is bad news for the region’s growers, who are hoping for rain, not climbing temperatures.
It’s been a dry month so far, with just 1.2 millimetres of rain falling so far in Leeton. There has been no recorded rain in Griffith.
Temperatures in Griffith and Leeton are next week expected to drop back to more mild figures, which is normal for spring.
The Bureau of Meteorology had previously predicted a warm, dry spring.
