Griffith City Council has temporarily set aside a motion that would see individual councillors become more transparent about their individual expenses.
The motion was put forward by Councillor Brian Simpson on August 22.
Griffith Council Manager of Executive Services Shireen Donaldson said that the proposed changes will be taken to a workshop.
“The workshop gives councillors an opportunity to closely compare the currently adopted policy with the suggested template that has been issued by the Office of Local Government,” she said.
A report will then be presented in an open council meeting.
Former councillor Bill Lancaster said that transparency was important across all levels of government.
“The matter of transparency has been a concern across not only local government, but across state and federal governments as well,” he said.
“If you don’t have transparency, an individual may take advantage of it and you wouldn’t have anyone finding out if they are.”
