The event saw the Department of Family and Community Services (FACS), Housing NSW, Argyle Community Housing, Griffith City Council, Intereach and volunteers come together to assist in cleaning up the Pioneer social housing estate in Griffith.
Resident from Doherty place Sela Cuta was gratified at the opportunity for the residents in the area to have this opportunity, and has seen everyone take advantage.
“The clean up day has been a success, everyone has come with their rubbish and it really helps clean up our area … it’s been really great,” Ms Cuta said.
“Last night we took some old TV and put in the skips, some clutter we just don’t use, a lawn mower, some big things we find hard to get rid of.”
The day gave an opportunity for tenants, community members and service providers to join in cleaning the public space and remove large items from the estate.

Manager of Murrumbidgee Housing Services Michael Whiteside was pleased with the success of the day.
“We are working very closely with the community and they are engaging well, and just giving them an opportunity to clean out rubbish,” Mr Whiteside said.
“We have large items in the skips, and a lot of tenants find this stuff hard to get rid of, it is expensive and there are no other ways for them to clean up.
“We are really trying to encourage community involvement, so they can see community family services are actively trying to help them.”
This program has been run in other Housing NSW estates with great success, including improved community engagement, a reduction in the number of property care issues and an improved visual image of the estates.
