The Area News is refreshing its online experience from Monday as it switches to a new-look website at areanews.com.au.
Griffith’s oldest and most trusted source of local news and community information for more than 90 years, The Area News is now faster and easier to read on your smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop.
Designed to be accessible on any device, the enhanced areanews.com.au has adaptive features that make it simple to get your favourite local news on the go, wherever you are.
The sleek design and streamlined functions are optimised for faster page and story navigation and a more engaging user experience, plus easier sharing on your social network.
Drawing on the Griffith-based news team led by The Area News editor Ben Jones, areanews.com.au will continue to deliver the regular local news, sport, comment and community updates Griffith audiences have come to expect and trust.
The website also taps into Fairfax Media’s network of journalists spread across south-west NSW, as well as breaking news coverage from around the nation. There’s also entertainment news, travel ideas and the latest on life & style.
The site’s new advertiser opportunities will allow MIA businesses to reach areanews.com.au’s growing online audience.

The digital-first publishing technology used by The Area News since 2015 is at the forefront of newspaper and website production worldwide, and allows local journalists in the field to publish news online as it happens.
South-West NSW group managing editor Paul McLoughlin said the revamped areanews.com.au would continue to provide a proudly local perspective on Griffith’s people, places, issues and events.
“We’ve changed the way we present and publish news for our digital audience,” Mr McLoughlin said.
“But our commitment to providing your favourite local reading isn’t changing, including coverage of breaking news and important council and community issues.”
“We know that local news plays an important role in helping to keep people in regional areas connected, and our local journalists take great pride in telling stories for the communities where they live.
“As a trusted local voice, The Area News will continue to deliver quality journalism online and in print.”
Visitors to areanews.com.au can submit local sports results and letters to the editor, place an advertisement and read the classifieds.
The print edition of The Area News is published Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
The $1.50 cover price of the newspaper remains unchanged.
