Yenda and Waratah Football clubs held their Sporties match last month dedicated to raising funds for the Griffith Suicide Prevention and Support group in honour of David Rauluni, with great success.
Griffith Suicide Prevention and Support group’s Val Woodland said the day went well because both teams were very supportive, and “also because the Waratahs won!”
“The Waratah football club had special Guernseys made with our name and phone number on them, and all of the Guernseys sold” she said.
“Raffle tickets were sold throughout the day which also helped.”
“$834 dollars was raised which was absolutely fantastic, a little more than what everyone expected, and goes directly towards the crisis line” Mrs Woodland said.
The money raised will go a long way towards paying the phone bill for those in crisis.
“To those who contributed, the Waratahs, Yenda team and spectators, thank you so much for supporting our crisis line.”
Mrs Woodland urged any one who could volunteer for their organisation to do so, as they currently need all the help they can get.
“We are a regionally based service, however we have had people call from all over Australia, especially if Lifeline numbers are busy, so we are covering a lot of ground and doing a lot of good.”
To volunteer please call Val Woodland on 0408202376.
If you going through a hard time and need help or know someone who does, the crisis line number is 1300 133 911, which is open 24/7.
