The second-placed Big Chicks side was up against the newly formed Meadow Lane/SDS/Rinaland team in the MIA Coaches C Grade game.
The Big Chicks team were firm favourites, given their second place on the ladder, although they gave away plenty in terms of height and age
The first half got off to a bit of a scrappy start until Big Chicks goal attack Grace Catanzariti found a nice rhythm.
She started throwing in some nice mid-range shots to take the score to 7-2 at quarter time.
The second quarter was more evenly matched, with Meadow Lane/SDS/Rinaland making some smart positional changes, with the move of Tamika Fox into goal attack proving a good decision.
By half time the score was 17-11 Big Chicks way.
The game then settled into a nice rhythm with both teams going goal for goal.
As the final quarter commenced, Big Chicks were holding onto a seven-goal lead.
However, two quick goals from Meadow Lane/SDS/Rinaland had the crowd wondering if momentum was about to turn.
With Big Chicks up by four goals, they pulled off the play of the day with a beautiful exchange of passing down the court.
Alyssa Quinn slotted the goal to the applause of those watching.
To the credit of Meadow Lane/SDS/Rinaland, they never gave up.
In the end, Meadow Lane/SDS/Rinaland went down by three goals in an excellent effort by a new side, in a game that was played in great spirit.
Top placed The Force took on third-placed SPS/Doms/Bowmans in the other C Grade game.
With just one point between The Force, Big Chicks and SPS/Doms/Bowmans, this was an important game and their hard work saw them close out the game with a 28-19 victory.
The result has caused quite a shakeup in the ladder heading into next week's fixtures and has ensured the MIA Coaches C Grade Competition remains very competitive.
