Wade High graduate Maddison Gregor lands plush world cup marketing role

The 22-year-old Wade High graduate applied for a volunteer role at the tournament, but was unable to make her interview. Yet her resume impressed the selection panel so much they offered her a dream job – a world cup digital and social media coordinator. 

“I was surprised where I got the call, but thought it would be a fantastic opportunity,” she said. 

So what’s the secret to having a resume which makes employers want to come to you? 

“I’ve always tried to take on as many experiences as possible. Internships, volunteering, travel, I seek out opportunities all the time”.

While studying a Bachelor of Communications in Public Relations and Sports Management at the University of Canberra, Maddison interned with both Tennis ACT and Touch Football Australia. 

At Touch Football Australia, she covered Australia v New Zealand internationals – experience equipping her for her world cup role. 

She’s handy on the field too, captaining the winning Wade High state champion tennis team in 2010.

So what’s her advice to Year 12 students wondering what to do with their lives?

“Find something you are passionate about and take it with two hands and run. Take on as much experience as you can and always be open to taking new opportunities to learn and grow – and have fun in the meantime,” Maddison said.
