A collaboratively run course saw nurses and carers from around the region even better equipped to look after residents in need of care earlier this week.

The course, which sees Murrumbidgee Local Health District teaming up with Murrumbidgee Primary Health, was run by Griffith Base Hospital ASET clinical nurse consultant Andrea Jordan at St Vincent's Private Community Hospital Griffith and saw the health community come together for a common cause.
“We’re all on the same page, it’s all about the residents,” Ms Jordan said.
“Murrumbidgee Local Health District and Murrumbidgee Primary Health worked closely together on this project along with many others.
“St Vincent’s been incredibly generous providing the education room for free.”
The course – called acute care decision guidelines for nurses and carers – was aimed at carers and residential nursing home staff, according to Ms Jordan.
“It gives them a framework and strategies to be able to identify and then manage a person who may be becoming unwell,” she said.
“It looks at a whole lot of different scenarios from someone who has a fall, someone who loses consciousness to someone who becomes acutely confused or maybe developing an infection, all those sorts of things.
“It increases the confidence in the ability of the care staff to recognise their loved one is becoming unwell and the tools to act on those concerns in a timely manner.”
The course was attended by staff from Scalabrini Village, Pioneers Lodge and Leeton Health Service amongst others.
People who attended the course and have done the appropriate training will also be able to deliver the course to others.
