Griffith High School (GHS) scored an emphatic 42-0 win over Marian Catholic College (MCC) in the opening round of the Fifita Cup open girls league tag on Monday at the Coro Club Oval.
The first play of the match didn’t go to plan for GHS as the side fumbled the opening kick-off.
MCC then made a mistake the following set to let Griffith High School off the hook.
Another Marian mistake shortly after – this time on MCC’s own 40-metre line – was all Griffith High needed to take advantage as the girls notched up the first points of the match.
Griffith High School never looked back from there.
By half-time, GHS had cruised to a 28-0 lead.
The second half was closer affair as Marian’s ball handling improved.
However, Griffith High piled on a further 14 points to take out the easy win.
Bianca Sutton scored a game-high five tries for Griffith High School in the win.
In the under 16s rugby league match GHS beat MCC 26-6 while GHS also won the under 18s rugby league 40-6.
