GWS’ ‘Meet the Giants’ fan session almost had to be cancelled on Friday night after a storm in Sydney delayed the club’s flight.
After a delay of more than an hour, the Giants finally took off and landed in Narrandera at about 6.30pm.
The playing group jumped straight on a bus from Narrandera Airport to Narrandera Sportsground to greet their fans.
A large group of AFL fans were on hand to welcome the Giants, especially hometown heros Zac Williams and Matt Flynn, ahead of Saturday’s clash with West Coast Eagles.
AFL Southern NSW development manager Marc Geppert said everything is in place for a big day of AFL football in Narrandera.
At last count, 3100 tickets had been sold.
“People down here like to get their tickets at the gate, so 3100 pre-sold is healthy,” Geppert said.
“I’d love to say we will get double that with walk-up starters on the day, but anywhere between 5000 and 6000 will be a good effort I reckon.”
