Six newly graduated nurses have started their careers and are using Griffith Base Hospital (GBH) as a launching pad.
All of the graduates pointed to being able to help those in need as a major draw card in choosing nursing as their profession.
Three of these graduates, Stephanie Whitehurst, Prisca Muchayabasa and Sean Beecher are already familiar with the area having lived here before starting at the hospital.
Mr Beecher gave an interesting answer to why he chose to be a nurse.
“A fascination with the human body and the states of illnesses,” he said.
“Also how interesting it is seeing treatments actually coming into play when the body is that sick it can do nothing but worsen its own condition.”
Griffith Base Hospital’s Director of Nursing and Midwifery, Meredith Whittaker said it was wonderful to have local graduates seeking to start their careers in a rural setting.
“It is terrific that four of six graduate nurses starting at GBH selected our hospital as their first preference,” she said.
“We welcome them with open arms because we enjoy having the newly graduated nurse come to the facility and learn and consolidate their training.”
