Love was in the air this Valentine’s Day in Griffith
Blossoms florist owner and manager Cathy Catanzariti was happy enough to attest to the city’s vibe.
She found this year’s Valentine’s Day was hectic and overwhelming, easily three time bigger than last year.
“Falling on a Sunday last year, couples were at home so they went for brunch or they went out for dinner,” Cathy said.
“This year, a lot of the couples are working so they wanted to surprise their partners with something special being delivered to work.”
This year’s preparations started a month out, placing orders and trying to source something that little more breathtaking.
Blossoms secured a freshly preserved rose, said to live for up to 12 months.
Ordering 1200 stems, bears and chocolates is just some of the preparation that went into the busiest day of the year.
Four days is spent at the greenery for preparation, and two days is spent transporting the motherload of 4000 stems of roses.
“We had to condition the roses. This meant we had to strip them, place them in conditioned water, and placing them in the cool room.”
The night before is crazy.
With little to no sleep, Cathy and her team were busy putting all the orders together.
“Last night we shut the front door at 1am, so we could concentrate on our orders.”
Cathy’s staff this year consisted of six florists, four customer-service staff and eight delivery drivers.
