It will take five months and will close a busy intersection but Griffith City Council say the construction of a roundabout on Old Wilbriggie Road will be well worth the effort.
From Monday, January 16 the intersection where Old Wilbriggie Road, meets Kurrajong and Watkins Avenues will be closed as a $1.85 million project gets underway.
“This round about forms an important strategic part of the Southern Industrial Link for Griffith, it is a significant milestone in the city’s transportation history,” Director of infrastructure service and operations Phil King said.
As well as a roundabout, installing drainage pipes, realigning the approach roads, kerb and guttering works, concrete medians and safety barriers will also be undertaken.
Council estimates the roundabout will be complete in June 2017, however this will be dependant upon other weather conditions and other unforeseen issues that may occur during construction. During this time no access will be allowed through the site and any vehicles going through the closed roads will face prosecution.
