After a horror accident claimed the lives of two truck drivers on Tuesday a warning has been issued as the region prepares for more trucks on the road during the grape harvest.
Road Safety and Traffic Officer at Griffith City Council Greg Balind said complying with rules and allowing heavy vehicles plenty of room while sharing the road not only ensures safety but prevents fruit and juice spills on roads. “In the past a number of grape spills upon our roads have resulted in other drivers losing control of their vehicles or being unable to safely stop at intersections,” he said. “Recent consultation with heavy vehicle representatives confirmed there has been many representatives confirmed there has been many occasions when they have been ‘cut off’ or forced to take evasive action to avoid a crash due to drivers stopping suddenly or pulling out in front of them.”
