An innovative company might have the answer to help drive down price typically associated with putting a pool on you property. It gives shipping containers a second chance at life, and farmers get a fully tax-deductible swimming pool.
Shipping Container Pools, has a very simple business model. It buys second-hand shipping containers, slices them in half, lines them with pre-moulded fibreglass and sells them.
“For 35 years we sold a whole range of swimming pools but these days we just have the one product,” said the company’s salesman Nigel Butcher.
2016 has been a bumper year for the company thanks to tax laws which came into effect in May 2015, which allow farmers to claim a deduction on all capital expenditure on water facilities, fodder storage assets and fencing.
Farms with turnover of less than $2 million qualify as a small business are eligible to immediately write-off all asset purchases up to $20,000.
Fortunately, the pools Mr Butcher sells carry a price tag of $19,900. Larger pools go for $39,900.

Mr Butcher said the memo hadn’t gone unnoticed.
He said farmers throughout NSW were signing up for the pools “in droves”.
“We’re just about to sell our 400th shipping container pool.”
The company, based at Coolum Beach on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland has also started exporting to America, New Zealand and Vanuatu.
Mendooran graziers Tracey and Bill Denne recently snagged themselves a 12-metre pool.
The couple, who also run a butchers shop in the Hawkesbury, have grand plans to stay cool this summer.
“We’re building a house in the Hawkesbury and rather than wait years to get a pool in we’ve got one already. We could take it back to Mendooran if we wanted to,” Mr Denne said.
