Twined and coiled basketry is one of the oldest techniques known having been passed down from many generations.
The day will start will learning what material is suitable and how to forage for them in the local environment. Then using local reeds, feathers, seeds that will be provided they will explore traditional stitches including the coiling technique.
If weaving is not your thing the will be more on offer with a painting from memory workshop. Gabrella Hegyes will be hosting the workshop at Lake Wyangan Studio Annex.
Gabrella studied fine arts at Wollongong, the National Art School, University of Western Sydney and Monash University. She has participated in numerous solo and selected group exhibitions around Australia and overseas.
She has also curated several exhibitions and developed and coordinated a number of community art projects in NSW and also has 25 years of teaching experience including at a tertiary level.
The workshop will focus on using photographic images and text to create maps of memory and collaged images onto fabric, paper, timber and other surfaces.
The aim is to develop works using memory or memorabilia as a starting point to explore history, be it personal or general.
Both workshops cost $200, which includes all of the materials required with morning and afternoon tea provided. The activities will also both start at 9am with a finishing time of around 3.30pm.
