The Burrumbuttock Hay Runners drought relief concert series will play in Griffith this weekend and organisers and artists are asking the community to get behind them as they donate their time to raise money for drought stricken farmers.
Headlining artist Miss Cooke said the enthusiasm from people in the four concerts they had held so far had been phenomenal, and had seen them already raise $6000.
“It really restores your faith in humanity,” she said.
“100 per cent of the profits go to the Hay Runners and it all helps with diesel for the trucks.
Miss Cooke is currently on tour and she and her team are putting on the concerts in what would usually be their well earned downtime.
“Even the people who are travelling around and helping us with sound are volunteering their time – I guess we all just really believe in the cause,” she said.
Miss Cooke said helping the hayrunners was something she and her mother Janelle had immediately wanted to get behind.
“My mum called Brendan and asked if he wouldn’t mind if we did something and he was stoked,” she said.
“It’s such an important Australian cause, we have such great Aussie farmers and we are very proud that we still have so many supplies coming from them.
“For myself personally going on tours through the outback I’ve heard stories of farmers who have had to sell their fifth generation farms – it is heartbreaking and with all this rain we have had lately people don’t think they still need our help, but they do.
The Griffith Burrumbuttock Hay Runners drought relief concert will be held at the Griffith Leagues Club Saturday, September 24 from 7pm.
Tickets are $20 with local artists Tony L, Living in Paradise, Painted Desert Duo and Hidden Temple all performing. Miss Cooke said organisers tried to gather a range of different performers to ensure there was a genre for everyone to enjoy on the night.
