Frank Nardi was a great teacher.
- Michael Johnston
The 21-year- old, who completed a Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology, will now represent the region at the State finals in September.
In a further boost, fellow TAFE student Erin McDermott was recognised with an Industry Excellence Award and will take part in the WorldSkills Australia National Competition in Melbourne later this year.
Mr Johnston, who has recently completed his apprenticeship at Safari Motors in Narrandera, said he was thrilled to receive the award and paid tribute to TAFE teaching staff.
“Frank Nardi was a great teacher, so that helped a lot,” he said.
“If I didn’t understand something, he’d explain it in a different way or show me how to do it and I’d go from there.”
Michael is studying a short course in Automotive Electrical Skill Set at Griffith and hopes to complete a Certificate IV in Automotive in the near future.
The awards are conducted annually by the NSW Department of Education to recognise outstanding achievements in the vocational education and training sector. They honour and reward the achievements of students, teachers, training organisations, as well as large and small employers.
