Hanwood Public School was crowned the winner of the Tony Lockett Shield whilst Leeton Public School won the girls’ Paul Kelly Cup and St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School took out the boys’ Paul Kelly Cup.
St Patrick’s then beat Hanwood Public School to be named the overall winner of the day.
All three schools move on to their respective next stages in the government and non-government school competitions.
Hanwood will move onto a school-based competition where the school can progress all the way to a state final.
St Patrick’s and Leeton will play in a regional final in Wagga in June.
The large numbers on the day – which included schools that don’t always field sides – was a highlight for AFL MIA’s Che Jenkins. He thanked students from Narrandera High, Wade High and Marian Catholic College who umpired on the day.
