IN Griffith’s Centenary year, Queensland academic Dr John Jiggens has called on the state government to release witness statements regarding the murder of Donald Mackay. Dr Jiggens said the murder was an important event in the history of drug policy in Australia and he hoped it would be solved. “All the witnesses are dying and they’re not releasing the statements,” Dr Jiggens said.

Dr Jiggens said he believed someone with fresh eyes may find something new in the statements. Mr Mackay, an anti-drugs campaigner, was killed on July 15, 1977 at about 6.30pm. The whereabouts of his body and the details of his murder still remain a mystery. Dr Jiggens has written two books about the murder – The Man Who Knew Too Much and The Killer Cop and the Murder of Donald Mackay.
