According to police, three men allegedly forced their way into the home on Noorla Street in Griffith at 3.50pm on Tuesday. At least one of the men is believed to have been armed with a knife.
Jacob Victor Moore, 25, and Kyle Augustus Higgins, 23, were both charged with aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence in company. They were refused bail in Griffith Local Court on Wednesday.
Inspector Nick Seddon from Griffith Local Area Command said the resident of the house managed to escape through a window and called police from a neighbour’s home.
Witnesses said they heard shouting during the incident and after the female resident ran for help.
Police arrested Moore and Higgins at 7.30pm in Griffith on Tuesday night.
Moore was also charged with assaulting Constable Shanahan Toering during the arrest, while Higgins was charged with resisting Sergeant Brett Ryan.
According to court documents, Moore was refused bail due to his “lengthy criminal history” and past “non-compliance with bail and other orders”.
Forensic police will examine the crime scene for further information as police continue to hunt for the third man involved.
On Wednesday morning a man arrived at the house to check on the welfare of his step-sister who lived at the home.
He was assured nobody was injured.
Inspector Seddon appealed for anyone with information about the incident or the whereabouts of the third person to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or Griffith Police on (02) 6969 4299.
Moore and Higgins will appear in Griffith Local Court via video link on March 23.
