It was a day that promoted the well-being of all young people, and the prevention of bullying and youth suicide by encouraging people to be proud of who they are.
The annual event promotes the idea that every young person is unique and should therefore be celebrated for who they are within a safe and supportive environment.
Griffith LAC said they will support local schools and students now and in the future.
Detective Inspector Wilkinson, said everyone has the right to feel supported, safe and free from harassment, bullying and violence.
“Griffith LAC police respect diversity, and ‘Wear it Purple’ day gives us an opportunity to show our support for young people as well as our awareness of the challenges facing them today,” he said.
‘Wear it Purple’ day also encouraged support for the prevention of youth suicide, one of the leading causes of death among young people, second only to road trauma.
The risk of suicide grows seven times greater for youths who suffer discrimination or prejudice based on their sexuality or gender diversity.
