Junior stalwart Jake Harrison continues his climb up the ladder, taking out A grade with 37 points. He missed on the first in scoring 16 points out then came home in one-over par 36, draining birdies on the 16th and 18th.
Runner-up Barry Stapleton (36 points) looked a winner after scoring 20 points out, which included a birdie on the eighth. But one-pointers on the 15th and 16th, and a miss on the 17th saw him slip to 16 in. He finished ahead of Alf Franchi on a countback.
A birdie on the first saw Lance Perry win B grade with 40 points. He carded 22 points out and 18 in.
Andrew Oates (36 points) was second. He canned a birdie on the eighth in scoring 20 points out then scrambled 16 points home to beat Ken Alpen on a countback.
Dick Thompson carded the day’s best score of 43 points to street his C grade rivals. He scored 21 out, carding a four-point par on the fourth, then carded four three-pointers to add 22 in.
Ray Barrington (34 points) was a distant second after recovering from a dirty day of only 13 points out to breeze home with 21 points.
Pro pins to Barry Stapleton and Bob Trembath. Par threes to Lance Perry (7th), Bob Painting (11th) and Jake Harrison (16th). Vouchers went to 33 points.
The Cystic Fibrosis Charity Golf Day held last Sunday was a huge success, with 114 players taking part in a four-person ambrose. A big thanks to the many sponsors who helped make the day the success it was.
C Richards, S Richards, R Harrison and R Raymond combined to take scratch, carding nine-under par 62. They carded nine birdies in their round and beat the handicap runners up on a countback.
Handicap winners on 55 ½ nett were N Mahaffey, C Barrington, J Wisecombe and R Wiseman. They combined to shoot six-under par 65, with birdies on the fifth, seventh, ninth 15th, 17th and 18th.
Runners-up on 55 ¾ nett were A Andreazza, D Kidd, A McLean and A Franchi. They blitzed the outward nine in five-under par 29 but could only manage two-under 33 in, with eight pars and an eagle two (15th).
Liz Graham won the ladies’ long drive, while Justin Robertson took the men’s prize. Nearest the pins went to Jake Harrison (4th), Alf Franchi (7th), Ben Curphey (11th) and Andrew Romagnolo (16th). Vouchers comp to the pro shop.
The quarter-finals of the R McNabb Caltex Matchplay were completed last Sunday. Gerry Cox won against Chris Scobie on the 18th and will play Tom Morgan in the semis following a forfeit from Steve Stringer.
In the other quarters, Jack Draskovic romped in over Andrew Cozens 5/4 and will now play Sid Knox, who had a hard-fought 3/2 win over Alf Franchi. The semis are to be played by June 21.
Today’s event is a single stableford, while Saturday is a money ball event with a single in conjunction.
Sunday is a single stableford and Keno Mixed Four Ball play-off in Jerilderie.
