Hermit’s Cave looks set for renovation.
Sydney based development company Vandelay Industrial is trying to purchase the rights to build 12 luxury apartments on the site.
The apartments will be named the Valerio Ricetti Units, after the cave's first inhabitant.
Vandelay spokesman George Benes said that the Hermit’s Cave would remain "largely intact."
"We're looking to transform the existing site into a wine bar and restaurant, but we'll try to maintain the look and feel for heritage purposes."
"It's important we don't let these iconic locations go to wreck and ruin simply because of silly notions of importance.
"The site is prime real estate, and we're going to make sure it gets the clientèle it deserves."
Griffith Mayor John Dal Broi said the development was great news.
"The apartments will have excellent views and I can see more development happening on Scenic Hill," Councillor Dal Broi said.
