A club-record 52 athletes qualified for the event after big performances at the zone championships in Finley before Christmas.
The two-day regional titles will see Griffith athletes take on rivals from Wollongong, Bowral, Dapto, Deniliquin, Wagga, Kiama, Hay, Leeton and other centres.
Griffith Little Athletics president Veronica Cudmore said having the event staged in Leeton was a massive advantage for her club members.
“It’s in our own backyard, and probably not everyone will travel from the coast to compete,” she said.
“Just with the time and the expense that’s involved with it. It's quite expensive to travel, so it’s quite an advantage to have it in the Western Zone.”
Athletes who perform well at the regional championships will qualify for the state titles at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre in March.
