The event normally attracts between 70 and 80 cars, but Griffith Off Road Club treasurer Matt Ryan said the date switch to the start of the racing season on March 21-22 should lure more drivers.
“We’re expecting to get a few more because nobody would’ve started having car problems, which can force them out of events,” Ryan said.
“It should be a pretty good turnout.”
Another advantage of shifting the ARB Griffith 400 to March is the extra daylight hours the club can utilise to stage the event.
Ryan said the previous July date was a constant battle with the clock.
“We can’t race in the dark,” Ryan said.
“We get an extra two and a half hours of daylight by shifting it to March, and that’s a big thing for us.”
The off-road course for the four-lap, 400km event is between Goolgowi and Rankins Springs, with this year’s route to include 20km of paddock tracks.
Ryan said drivers should enjoy the changes.
“In our sport, we’ve got a reputation of having a tough track,” he said.
“We’ve tried to ease off a little bit on that.”
