The annual Festival of Gardens impressed the thousands of visitors and locals who checked out the nine gardens on show.
Griffith Visitors Centre coordinator Mirella Guidolin called this year’s an “extremely successful” event.
“All nine gardens were very well received and everyone loved the citrus sculptures,” she said.
“This year we changed the program to include events like the Paella by the Sculptures to launch the festival on Friday night and the Long Italian Table on Saturday night and they were both huge successes.
“We had 1000 at the launch and 200 at the dinner at Pioneer Park.
“We were blessed with wonderful weather all weekend too.”
Special guest Tino Carnevale from ABC TV’s Gardening Australia impressed for the second year.
“It was such a delight to have him back. We couldn’t have asked for a better special guest. He spoke at each of the gardens and also went to Beelbangera Public School and the kids loved him,” Ms Guidolin said.
“He interacts with anybody and everybody. We had people lined up to talk to him wherever he went. On Saturday night at the dinner he made a toast to Griffith and it’s community spirit.”
Ms Guidolin said final numbers wouldn’t be known until after this weekend, with more coaches expected throughout the week.
“By the time we pull down the sculptures on Sunday more than 20 coach groups from all over will have come to town,” she said.
“We have had thousands of people come to enjoy our festival and it’s good to see that locals are starting to really appreciate how unique our sculptures are and how special they are to Griffith.”
