Fabian Salvestro was accelerating out of the Hanwood 50km/h zone along Kidman Way on his way to Griffith when he lost control.
The Ford sedan lost grip, spun around, collided with a tree on the wrong side of the road, flipped and spun again before coming to an abrupt halt in a drainage ditch.
Mr Salvestro believed the road was greasy owing to Wednesday night's rain.
"I was going from 50km/h to 80km/h when I lost control," he said. "The car spun around and was facing backwards when I hit the tree, which flipped the car.
"It was just a matter of a few seconds and it was all over and done, it was just that quick."
Mr Salvestro was attended to by paramedics, but aside from cuts to his left hand and a state of shock, he did not sustain any major injuries.
He used the opportunity to send a warning to other drivers who may be inclined to put the foot down entering an 80km/h zone.
"Just be careful when accelerating in the wet because this can happen so fast."
Fabian's father Greg Salvestro, from the Griffith Custom and Classic Car Club, said the vehicle had been worth $20,000 but would most likely be written off after the accident.
